Ostrich eating eggs

The ostrich egg weighs about 1,4 – 1,8 kg and can replace from 25 to 30 hen eggs. The average size of the egg is 15 cm in length and 12,5 cm in width. The ostrich egg has a really thick shell which is from 2 to 3 mm thick and it is so hard that an adult can stand on the egg and causes no damage to the egg.

The ostrich egg has a different yolk to white ratio when we compare it to the classic eggs. One third of the ostrich egg is yolk and two thirds are white, so it is very tasty. The ostrich egg is exceptional because it has significantly less cholesterol than the hen egg and one egg feeds from 8 to 10 people. It boils from 60 to 90 minutes, as the consumer requires.

What you should be aware of
The ostrich egg, which has been even for one day in an incubator at a constant temperature of 36 degrees, has undergone a biological developmental phase and is therefore no longer suitable for consumption. This kind of egg should only be blown and used as a painted Easter egg. The longer the egg is in the incubator, the higher chance there is that after eating such an egg you might be infected with salmonellosis or other diseases.

Ostrich painted Easter eggs
The African natives used blown ostrich eggs as containers for storing water and women were decorated with egg shells. Nowadays, the shells are used in the furniture industry for production of decorative items, lamps, glasses, or they can be used for production of special brooches, necklaces, bracelets, or earrings. Each ostrich egg is very precious.
